You can actually get a proper car seat that has a built in 5 point harness that goes up to 26kg. we have one for our son who is 2 1/2 yrs.
The brand is Hipod, found at target.

A friend recently told me that if you fill a 600ml coke bottle with $2 coins, it add up to $1000. My bottle is only about 1/5th full and Smartypig sounds like a much better saving plan!

I never spend $5 notes. I have a special pocket in my purse and once that reaches $50, that goes into my savings account. Amazing how quickly that mounts up.

We got involved with a program run by the Smith Family where we were saving for a computer for my son and we had ten months to save $1000 and the Smith Family would match what we saved to $1000, dollar by dollar and write out a cheque for the computer. They matched what we saved and we used their cheque to buy our son a real powerful computer.The money that we had saved we were able to use toward our car registration so it wasn't wasted.

Don't set unrealistic targets, they're the easiest plans to deviate from, set small, achievable goals and meet them no matter what it takes, it will get easier & easier.

Whenever I get paid now I am putting only enough money aside for the bills then the rest goes straight to the mortgage. Boring life but definately effective.

If you are always running out of money, or if you just want to save more, keep a brutally accurate spending diary. When you work out how much you're spending on coffee and cake a week it becomes really easy to put extra money aside!

I've been very badly in debt in the past... I've turned over a new leaf this year and am sorting my life out. I have made a budget spreadsheet which details every single outgoing that might come up, and I compare this against the percentage of what experts say you should be spending in a particular area, eg. 10% into savings, 15% debt, housing 35%, etc. If I can stick to this and I see myself actually saving more than what I should I allow myself a reward, depending on how well I have done. It might be coffee/dinner with friends, or new clothes.
One big cut, was stopping my mobile phone contact and going to a prepaid account. The contracts are really cheap, but because my budget is so tight at the moment, this allows me to top up with whatever I can afford at the time.
To save money in other areas, and although it sounds a little extreme, I always look at coupons from shopping receipts to see if there's anything I can use. I take my own lunch to work, and send off for sample requests. I have a new puppy and have sent off to a lot of companies, small and large, for samples, and I have received some great feedback, including information and large samples. It doesn't seem like it at the time, but every little bit does help.
Sorry, bit of an essay. Last bit of my advice would be to cut up all your credit cards. Feels really hard to do at first, but it's a great freedom when you do.

We are renovating and on a strict budget. I always ring round for quotes on items before I buy. Then when I go to the store, I negotiate a better cash discount. this can save hundreds of dollars.

Have a budget and stick to it.
We collect all the loose change my husband would otherwise spend on treats, it really adds up over a year.
Plan meals to cut down on take away food.
No more Cafe coffees.
Buy in bulk when items are on special.
Where possible, walk instead of drive.
Use cheap and free entertainment options - family movie night, games night, reading, drawing, going to the park, beach or playground.
When offered a discount, pay in full ( great for saving on school fees).
Consider selling off unwanted goods that are in good condition - garage sale or ebay (better to re-use than send to the tip)
Don't window shop - easy way to cut impulse spending.
